Tiffany & Co. had a total of 307 stores worldwide as of Dec. 31, compared with 296 a year ago. The retailer plans to reduce occupancy costs to save money after a tough holiday season, though the reduction reportedly doesn’t include store closures.
New York–“Restrained consumer spending” hit Tiffany & Co. hard this holiday season, particularly in the United States, and it now plans to cut jobs.
The New York-based jeweler reported Tuesday that global same-store holiday sales fell 5 percent year-over-year while total sales dipped 3 percent on a constant exchange rate basis. Read more…
Man Who Kidnapped Jewelry Store Worker Gets 15 Years By Logan Sachon JCK Online
Two other suspects also pleaded guilty and are awaiting sentencing
One of the three men convicted of kidnapping a Philadelphia jewelry store employee in April 2015 has been sentenced to 15 years in federal prison for his role in the crime.
Basil Buie pleaded guilty to conspiracy, kidnapping, and attempted robbery in October. Two other codefendants, Khayree Gay and Salahudin Shaheed, also pleaded guilty and are awaiting sentencing.
The victim, 53-year-old jewelry store employee, was abducted from a parking garage off of Jewelers’ Row in Philadelphia’s Center City district. She was bound, beaten, and shot with a taser before being dumped in a cemetery, where she was found and taken to the hospital. Read more…

Kerv Contactless Payment Smart Ring Funded On Kickstarter By ANTHONY DEMARCO

The world’s first contactless payment ring has been funded through Kickstarter, achieving 43 percent more than its goal, with more than 2,000 backers. The backers pledged 110,182 British pounds ($158,000) to help bring this project to life.
The ring is called Kerv, and although there are other smart rings on the market, Kerv is the first ring that allows you to make a payment simply by swiping your hand over a contactless payment terminal. We spoke to one of Kerv’s founders, Philip Campbell. Read more…
